The Melting Pot - Arlington VA Ratings and Reviews
We were served faster than anywhere I have ever been! I was impressed!
We tried the recommended cheese and didn't like it at all - too strong for us. Our server, Kat, replaced it with a different cheese of our choice with no charge, no questions asked. We loved the second cheese. Then the chocolate was fabulous as well. Wonderful service!
If you just do a cheese and chocolate fondue the meal is very affordable, especially for such a nice restaurant.
The menu for Ladies' night was complicated and difficult to understand. Server didn't even care to explain it. It was my first visit and no one cared to explain anything to me about how the ordering works. Most of the cheese selections if not all contained alcohol. Not alcoholic friendly, not kid friendly. Plates are overpriced and the menus are too wordy. Seriously need to redo your menu ! No one explained to us that everyone's fondu selection would be served in one pot. The service was poor, server was clumsy and kept dropping things, he left the drink menu on the table even after we completed ordering. Tables were cumbersome, he had no idea how to place plates on the table so that we all had access to it. When we first sat down the table smelled like it was wiped with a dirty cloth, very repulsive. I wanted to leave from the time I arrived. This was reserved for a teen birthday and the waiter refused to sing happy birthday like ALL restaurants do when it's a birthday celebration. IF YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY OFFERING BIRTHDAY PACKAGES WHY ARE YOU REFUSING TO SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR THE GUEST, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS WAS RESERVED! Mushrooms were served with dirt on it, very unhygienic. To top it all of the package I paid for was supposed to include a photo and they completely forgot to take the picture. I had to ask about it at the end of the meal and at that point they told us to stand against a wall and they will take the picture. I was very disappointed and repulsed by this service and I will never return. I will also make sure I tell everyone I know about how awful it was!
Great food, but honestly kind of expensive for a chain restaurant. Also, we weren't informed upfront that extra dessert dippers cost extra; when we naturally ran out and asked for more, we were given extra but warned for next time. Again, our food was great, but I wouldn't return unless there's a happy hour special or something to offset the high costs.
Being parents, we have the pleasure of experiencing the melting pot with children and without children. The first experience can only be described as an anxious ridden event that is as enjoyable as watching a horror movie all by yourself in an abandoned insane asylum. After all, there is a hot pot with boiling oil just inches away from your five year old who has no intention of sitting through the next hour discussing world politics. It can of course be done, either with discipline or screens, but there are other more kid friendly venues (e.g. Cracker Barrel). Of course, melted cheese isn't every kids thing either. Mine begged to stay home the second time around because they were not crazy for the food. So when we went without kids for a second time, it was way more pleasurable. We loved the food, and despite not having reserved on a Friday and being squeezed in the bar, had a great dinner date. It is still a chain, so I'd hesitate to recommend it for real special occasions (i.e. anniversaries), for the same money you probably can get a nice restaurant in DC. However, it's OK for young couples, Valentine dates, birthdays and any other bigger occasion.
Was good overall, the small corner table is too small. We didn't have enough room for our meal. The service was great until the main course dinner, then they kinda forgot about us and drew out our dinner to over 2 hours. Otherwise, staff was friendly and the duck was delicious. Dessert was fabulous. If you don't drink alcohol, the menu is very limited but they can make substitutions...although might not taste as good. California salad was outstanding.
Yummy food and excellent service. It is a little too pricey for a regular night out but great for special occasions. Don't feel like you have to do the 4 course meal either. We shared two entrees for 3 people and it was more than enough since we had the cheese course to start. Of course we saved room for chocolate too!
Wonderful early Sunday dinner!! We got there right at 4pm and had a wonderful dinner of a cheese fondue and an entree of filet mignon in a lovely broth. The service was wonderful and the food was great. Everything was timed perfectly and the house wine was a treat and went great with the filet entree. The location is quite out of the way for us, but the food and service were worth the trip. We'll be back for a special occasion in the future!
We were celebrating our 3 yr anniversary and decided to do the couples 4 course deal. The service was horrible! Took us an hour just to get the first course. Took way too long on drinks. 20-25 minutes because the bar was "busy" I honestly think our waiter forgot to put the order the second time. The whole thing took about 3 hours. We left disappointed and slightly angered that our special occasion was spent at this place.
I've been to a couple different Melting Pot locations before, but this was my first time at the Arlington location. It didn't disappoint! Food is always consistently delicious and the whole fondue experience is just super fun. I've done it with a party of eight (including 3 kids) and it was a ton of fun. This time, it was a cozy birthday dinner for two and was just perfect. We had a super quiet booth in the corner and felt totally secluded and out of the way... was just great! The interior could do with a refresh, but that's the only improvement area. We'll definitely be back again.
For our first course, we got no plates to eat. Had to eat our fondue straight from the pot. How does that work out? After we had our chocolate fondue, our server got us the check right away, didn't even ask if we would like to order something else. It was a terrible experience and like everyone else said, it's overpriced. Will not return!
We booked our table at 9pm and walked in restaurant around 815 pm. Of course we had to wait for our turn. Around 840pm there were people leaving and there should be an open table. The staff could have called us and sit us. It was 9pm and still...no one called my name. We needed to wait until 905pm and ran out of patience and asked when it was our turn. They didn't even apologize and just took us to the table. The waiters were nice but not the staff at front. Food was good until the Hearty Europe cooking style. We didn't see the point of frying everything in batter. Oh well first time. We ll try another location at another time.
