The Melting Pot - Arlington VA Ratings and Reviews
I had never been to a fondue restaurant before this one. It was excellent. I got a great deal from Groupon and would definitely go again. The waiter patiently explained everything to myself and my fiancee. The cheese was excellent, along with all the different foods that were brought to be dipped in either the cheese or the broth. The sauces provided with the entrees created a very delicious complexity of flavor that I enjoyed. Place is a little pricey, but not sure if that's just how it is for fondue places or not, either way, I'd like to eat here again, and I'm sure my fiancee would too.
My husband and I were traveling from Southern Maryland and ran into traffic and knew we wouldn't be able to make it for our reservation time. The restaurant was very accommodating and switched our reservation time. When we arrived we were seated very quickly. Our waiter Carlos was very thorough with his explanation of the menu and he made sure I could enjoy the four course menu while accommodating the menu for my food allergies. Overall one of our best dining experiences.
Used to love and frequent this restaurant long ago, but this trip was my husband's first visit to any Melting Pot location.
The items that come with each course have become too numerous and quite distracting. Sometimes simple is better. For example, you used to get fruit, poundcake, and marshmallows with the chocolate fondue. Now, you get rice crispy treats, brownies, and the marshmallows are covered in cookie crumbs etc. These new items come at the cost of fewer pieces of fruit for dipping.
The server was very good but could have let it be known that we accidentally chose an oil with red wine in it, not exactly a good pairing with the shrimp we ordered.
Needs more low key, acoustic music to set mood.
We had an extraordinary dinner. The four course extravaganza is the most value for the money, although a tab for two without liquor will run more than $100. Cooking our own protein was so much fun; and what a selection, even for the vegetarians! When we didn't like the cheese fondue we selected, they didn't hesitate to offer an alternative. The biggest disappointment was the mint chocolate fondue. It was thin and didn't taste minty or chocolatey. The service was beyond good. The AC wasn't working well but they set up a fan. The staff was attentive but not overbearing. And the staff surprised us with a chocolate-drizzled strawberry holding a birthday candle! Can't say enough good things about them!
We went to the Melting Pot for our anniversary dinner and the food and our server were great. Loved the mixed drinks, 4 course menu, desert was fabulous, etc. It IS a bit pricey. Given the cost, we will probably only go 1-2 a year. Very special occasions only.
I have ONE complaint about the ambiance. It was SO HOT. The steam from the fondue is like having a space heater in the booth with you. I had to remove a layer and was still sweating, make up smudged, could not even CONSIDER having a hot coffee at the end, etc. Cranking up the A/C to be a bit chilly would be a good idea to offset the heat at each table!
We went to the Melting Pot for our daughter's birthday and very much enjoyed it. Our waitress was very good -- had to explain how the menu options worked. The food was delicious. We skipped the salad course and were glad we did because the fondue options alone filled us up easily. It's a little pricey ($200 for the 4 of us, only one alcoholic drink) but worthwhile for a special occasion.
The meal was outstanding from making the reservation to walking out the door! The reservation was just the time we wanted and the restaurant directed us to very convenient parking. I am handicapped and use an electric scooter to get around. The staff was very helpful in locating us in a table that was very convenient to my scooter. We started with the classic cheese appetizer and ended with the classic chocolate fondue. Both were delicious. Each of the three of us had separate entrees and cooled them in the burgundy broth. My guests were blown away! It was a going away dinner for my friend's mother who was flying home to Mongolia the next day. She loved the meal, as it was the first time she had European style fondue. I posted photos of the meal on my Facebook account, and by the next day it had over 50 likes and numerous positive comments on the meal.
