Benihana - Chandler Ratings and Reviews
The food was great, but sat too long in uncomfortable chairs. Had a reservation for 4 people at 7:45 and was seated by 8:20 - waiting in lobby was painful and appeared disorganized. Took way too long for the entire dining experience. Seemed like they were short of staff. We got out around 10pm.
We were warmly greeted and taken to our table immediately . We were aided in making our selections as it was our first visit. Our chef my only was entertaining but very knowledgable about the food he was preparing. Everything was cooked to as we requested. We could have asked for nothing more. Thanks to all for making our twenty-fifth anniversary a memorable occasion.
Got there early and had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. The close mechanism on the front door has been broken for over a year. Every time someone came in or out we had do endure that door slamming. It was unbearable. Unfortunately there was no where else to sit. Told two different managers about it and both acted like they didn't know about it and didn't care. Am a Chef's Table member and didn't receive Birthday Coupon in email. Sent two separate requests and didn't receive. Have been going for wife's birthday every year for several years. Will probably re-think going next year.
We had a reservation at 6:00, and we were kept waiting until 6:30 before we were seated. We were a party of six including two elderly grandparents, which was why we made the reservation rather than just showing up. This was unacceptable.
We also had a birthday coupon, which we have used many times before. The manager refused to accept it on a cell phone and said the only way she would accept it was if it was in the form of a printed copy, so my daughter drove to the Kinko's down the street to print a copy. The Kinko's didn't even charge for the copy when they heard why she needed it. The Kinko's manager said he also had gone there recently and they took the cell phone coupon without questioning him.
We normally go to the Scottsdale location, but decided to try the Chandler location. Big difference!
This was a very odd Benihana experience for two reasons. One of the people across the teppanaki table never quit talking. He wasn't just talking, he was monologuing to his dining party, and to us. I was hoping he would be quiet for the chef but he just kept going. Things like, Charleze Theron look old, so did Nicole Kidman. I am older than them both and so was his rather tired looking mother. It was embarrassing. I don't think his mother ever said more than 3 words. He was also cheap and picky. His meal was full of substitutions and he split it with his mom. Then he bragged about them eating there for $18.00 total. His sister ordered the boat and he told her it was a rip off. He also complained about the way HER food was prepared.
Our chef was terrific, he didn't mess up the order for Mr. Opinionated and was charming. It was really difficult to here anything he said over the loud non-stop voice of the talking man.
I actually wanted to ask him to please be quiet as it was my son's birthday but decided against it. The food was excellent just a little expensive for the volume but the quality was good. Our waitress was missing for quite some time and we thought she may have quit mid mid-service. She finally came back. It was a first for poor service at a Benihana.
I think we are going to try to find a new teppanaki experience in the future. I realize they have no control over the guest but the waitress was just not good.
I will say if you have a party that requires an entire table go. We are a family of 3 and at those prices it's not worth the risk.
Everyone very friendly, Table was ready on time. Hostess and chef asked each individual about alergies and took complicated orders quickly. Table side cooking was excellent not as much flair as there used to be but a good show none the less. Overall it was an outstanding dinner for 3.
Server was friendly but needed a lot of work on his cooking skills and timing. The quality of the food was low grade?? Just overall have had much better experience. There was no one there and you could of just walked in without a reservation. That usually speaks for itself.
It was our 8yr olds bday and this is his fav restaurant, he was super happy with his food so all is well. However we come here a lot and this was one of the worst meals we've had. Our server and chef were both very pleasant but both seemed very new and inexperienced. Our chef messed up several things on people's orders and seemed like he just wasn't trained very well. Our server made the comment after she dropped plates that they had given her 2 tables at the same time for the first time and she apologized for all the mistakes. As I stated, food was just ok, not up to usual Benihana standard, and both chef and server were very nice, lack of training seemed to be the issue. We will be giving this location some time to get themselves back up to their usual high standards before returning.
It's really OK restaurant. Nothing great. I would rather do BBQ at home. Seats are really narrow. Eventually, you don't have your own time with your family. Have to share the time and dinner with people on the same table so if you want to have a date, definitely not recommend.
My friend's 40th birthday celebration was not as great as I hoped. This teppanyaki restaurant doesn't squirt the saki in your mouth for as long as you can handle and they don't flip shrimp or veggies into the diner's mouth. Every other type of restaurant like this has in the past. The worst was when we went to use $30 off with our phone and they refused to allow a mobile device. It is our fault for not reading the email closely, but no restaurant enforces this archaic policy. For the prices, I would not recommend Benihana at all. Have no intention of going back.
We went here for my birthday and had two young children with us. They were accommodated for and the place setting was already set for us when we showed up.
The food was delicious and the show was entertaining. The chef spoke to us and interacted the whole time. It was a great dining experience for us!
Benihana never honors reservations on Opentable. The wait is always at least 15-20 minutes or more and they often seat parties coming in without a reservation before parties with a reservation. The chef was amazing but the service the last two times was horrible, slow, and rarely came back to check on the table. This is the 7th time Benihana has not honored our Opentable reservation, which I have reported repeatedly to OT.
