Benihana - ChandlerMy husband and I celebratedMy husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Benihana and we truly enjoyed the experience. The staff even sang to us in Chinese to celebrate after dinner.

He turned 13 this year and thoroughly enjoyed himself. They do a great job making him feel special. The prices are a bit spendy ($30 a head without cocktails), but worth it for the once a year experience. What is nice about the Benihana experience is sharing a common table with others. The food (Teppenyaki-style) is foremostly good (I'm tough about using the word "great"...) but the true value of dining there is the tableside service, which is both skill and art. The Chandler mall location is, well, "sterile" as it is located at a major retail shopping center. Had a short wait even with a reservation, but the service exceeded the inconvenience. Food preparation was outstanding and all our menu was cooked to perfection. We had to yell at one another to talk. I think putting a screen or making it more private would be a better experiance for all. She did great on picking an exciting restaurant to visit. We were quite disappointed to learn the day of my birthday that your restaurant offers a $30 birthday certificate that takes 24 hours to activate/receive by email. The coupon/certificate should be viewable/printable same day of registration. Another couple that my family sat with experienced the same disappointment. Benihana is a little pricy and this would've been beneficial. That night there were several tables that experienced a birthday at their table as well. Our chef for the evening, Taylor, was particularly energetic and interactive with our group and made our time very enjoyable. However, one of our group members ordered sushi for dinner, but it had not arrived until well after our chef had finished his preparation and the grill was clean. We were also a little disappointed that the table attendant was not better at being available for drink refills and other needs as the dinner went on. The chef was engaging and put on a good show. I had the surfside; the shrimp was plump cooked just right; the scallops were tender and sweet. However, there was something odd about the fish not the way it was cooked but the texture, it wasn’t flaky and buttery. The texture was solid much like the scallops but a little harder.

I think that the Teppan chefs are the most interesting part of the dining experience. Having your food prepared infront of you makes the food more appetizing but the price is pretty steep. If you're after the dining experience, go for it.
